f. 18r., altepetl and tlaxilacalli

The scene on this page (folio 18 recto) is meant to symbolize the larger community of San Miguel Mimiahpan [sic] and the neighborhood (or outlying settlement) of Santa María. Might this smaller settlement be La Concepción Hidalgo, today? Eleven simple three-dimensional white buildings with light brown roofs seem to represent the town of Mimiapan. Four of the same type of building represent the neighborhood or smaller settlement (tlaxilacalli) of Santa María. The doorways on some of the buildings are rounded at the top and some have a hint of a lintel. All the doorways are shaded a dark gray. At the bottom of the page, upon which the four buildings of the tlaxilacalli rest, there is a black line, and below this line the rest of the page is painted brown. [SW]
