f. 7r., two indigenous men standing

This scene, on folio 7 recto, two indigenous men are standing, possibly dressed in jaguar (ocelotl) hides, carrying quivers on their backs and more arrows in their hands. They may be intended to represent Chichimec ancestors, who were hunters/warriors. Note how the hides these men wear cover more of the body in comparison with the hides worn by the men at the end of the manuscript. A short text appears in the lower right corner of the page, calling them “our grandfathers” or ancestors. [Note: For a clarification of jaguar (ocelotl) vs. ocelot (tlacoocelotl), see what Gordon Whittaker wrote in an Aztlan post in 2012, hosted here: http://blogs.uoregon.edu/mesoinstitute/about/curriculum-unit-development/stem/ethnozoology/jaguarsocelots/.] [SW]
