This scene (folio 12 recto) shows us the heart of the altepetl, San Miguel Mimiahuapan. It shows two local indigenous men standing next to a church and six houses that represent the town. The text explains that the venerable father (i.e. St. Michael) is patron, guarding or keeping watch over the town. The name Mimiahuapan appears fairly consistently across the manuscript, but the town’s name today is Mimiapan. [SW]
