Translations and Transcriptions
English Translation
[f. 14r., Nahuatl-to-English translation by Stephanie Wood:] mecatl-land [i.e. measured land?], tribute-land, mecatl-land, tribute-land, tribute-land, tribute-land, mecatl-land. [Notes: In other Nahuatl documents we see both tequitlalli and tequitcatlalli seemingly used to refer to lands from which the produce would be used to meet tribute requirements, tributes that were provided to both the local indigenous ruling class and the Spanish colonial authorities. The distinction between tequitlalli and tequitcatlalli is still being investigated. Tequitlalli could also just mean work-land or cut-land. Mecatl-land is not a known concept in other Nahuatl texts, but a mecatl was a cord that was used to measure land, suggesting the possible translation of measured land.]
