f. 20v., two indigenous noblewomen

This page (folio 20 verso) features two indigenous women, possibly sisters of don Melchor Moteuczoma. The text names them as doña María and doña Angelina, and the titles they bear attest to their noble status, as elite women. They are said to be residents of Coaxochco. Their arms are bent, giving the impression that they are gesturing, which may also be an indication of their status. They wear long, flowing white cotton garments, clothing that was representative of Spanish colonial times. Their skirts have short angular lines that may suggest a pattern woven into them. Their hair, painted dark brown or black comes to their shoulders and is rounded at the bottom. They do not have the two points on the tops of their heads the way some elite sedentary Nahua women wore their hair. They are barefooted. They have a light brown or pinkish skin tone. Their eyes have an extra fold line. Their noses just have one horizontal line above the mouth. [SW]
