f. 19r., courthouse

This entire scene (folio 19 recto) shows a large two-story building which appears to be stuccoed and white-washed. Both levels have open entryways painted a dark brown. Both entries have lintel stones. The upper story is smaller than the lower. The roof may be thatched, as it is stippled with black ink marks. The color of the roof and the lintels is a lighter brown (with a hint of red). The lines of the building suggest three-dimensionality, as does the shading on the sides of the building on our right. The ground upon which the building sits is the medium brown of the roof and lintels. One gloss identifies this as the town’s courthouse (“tlatzontecoyan” in Nahuatl). [SW]
