f. 16v., indigenous man seated
This is a detail of an indigenous man seated on the ground. He wears the white cotton cloth garments associated with the Spanish colonial period. The fabric is given three-dimensionality with a gray shading. The man’s arms are bent in 90-degree angles at the elbows. His skin is painted a pinkish tone. He has no sandals, possibly indicating that he is a commoner. His shirt has a v-shaped opening at the chest, and a slight collar at the back. His hair is black, colored in. He has a pencil mustache hanging down on either side of his mouth, and a pencil-thin beard or goatee. There is a horizontal line between his eyes and his brow, perhaps a fold.
