This text speaks about the beginning of tribute arrangements and says that don Melchor Moteuczoma Tlacahuepan was established as the local ruler. This hand differs from the principal hand that appears across the manuscript. The writing is smaller. The use of c cedilla is also more notable. The original, brown ink, has been retraced with a darker brown at some point. [SW]

English Translation

[f. 10v., Nahuatl-to-English translation by Stephanie Wood:]Here you began paying tributes [and] the lord don Melchor Moteuczoma Tlacahuepan was set up as ruler at Mimiapan. XXXXX, 1 Flint. [Notes: We suspect that the line over the middle “i” in “Mimīpan” is an admission of a letter or letters omitted. The author has had trouble being consistent with Mimiahuapan vs. Mimiapan. The “1 Flint” is an effort to use a pre-Hispanic form for a date, emphasizing the antiquity of the events.]
