Bk. V, f. 3r., indigenous men fishing (colonial attire)

This page, which is the front face of the ninth folio of sixteen folios (also Book V, folio 3 recto), is typical of the image-heavy pages that feature landscapes included in these territorial claims of Santa María Iztacapan (modern State of Hidalgo, Mexico) late in the Spanish colonial period. This is a scene at a river with two indigenous men fishing. The river that runs between them, outlined in black, is painted with a turquoise blue watercolor. The men are outlined in black and wear what appears to be white-cotton, Spanish-colonial style clothing — shirts and pants. The man on our left has put his hat on the ground to his right. The man on our left still wears his hat. Text appears in the upper left and across the bottom of this page. The scene is reminiscent of Book VII, Folio 3v. [SW]
