indigenous man fishing (colonial attire)

This is a detail, appearing in Book V, folio 3 recto, of an indigenous man fishing. He is outlined in black. His clothing consists of white cotton pants and a long-sleeve tunic. A basket, outlined in black and with a construction that gives the appearance of about five horizontal rows, and possibly containing fish, appears to the man’s right. With his right hand he holds a fishing pole whose line splits into three near the water. The man is sitting on his legs, or his legs may dangle into the water (they are not fully visible). He has shoulder-length hair, a goatee, and a mustache. [SW]
