This page of text opens by stating that the author is writing from the “tecpancali” (town palace or the home of the town governor) and “tlatzontecoyan” (courthouse) of the altepetl of Ocoyacac, where “our precious father” San Martín, “today” in “this time” (no date given), coinciding with an assembly, when all the people of the altepetl gathered before the indigenous lords, the nobles, the officials of the town council, or those who work for the tributes. There is also a reference to our great lord “the king” (”lei”)[of Spain]. [SW]
