On this page the first section of text ends with town council officers’’ “signatures” (all made by the scribe, don Juan de San Martín Axayatl [sic]). Elsewhere, his name is given as don Juan de San Martín Axayacatl. It is ironic that the scribe or notary would make an error in the writing of his own name here. He also adds a superfluous “l” to “xa” when trying to write Xan before Maltin, another surprising error if this was really his own name and he was a town notary. Other surprises are 1) the use of “tecpanquizque” (one who orders, but in the plural, erroneously); 2) the humble first-person expression “nehuapol” for the name of the great calpixqui (also given erroneously in the plural), making it unclear just who is writing; 3) another “nehuapol” with the name of the scribe, which is more common, but already confused by the other first-person expression above.
