f. 12r., three indigenous women
Thiis is a detail of three indigenous women sitting on the ground with their legs tucked under them, in a pre-Hispanic style. Their clothing consists of white cotton cloth, which is indicative of the Spanish colonial era. The cloth shows three-dimensional shading, which is a European stylistic that has been learned by the painter. The hairstyle of the two women on the left suggests a sedentary lifestyle and a certain maturity. The woman on the right, with her hair down and flowing, may be a younger, unmarried woman. All three are dressed alike, and all three gesture in a similar way. Their faces and hands are painted a pinkish brown. [SW]
