This is a detail of the lower text on the front face of the fourteenth folio of sixteen folios (also Book ViI, folio 2 recto). (See also the principal text at the top of this same page.) The intent of the text is to identify that the land represented here pertains to a place called Tepetzinco Memetlan. [SW]

English Translation

[VII, f. 2r.] [The lands of] Tepetzinco Memetlan stretch out [here]. [Note: I have added back the “n” that seems to have dropped off Memetlan. The term “huitlatztoc” we are translating as “stretches,” “stretching out,” or the equivalent. It could also be “in length” or “long” (see Molina, uitlatztic, cosa muy larga, o luenga. The term “huytlatztoc” is very prevalent in Techialoyan manuscripts in particular, appearing in the one from Ocoyacac, Totoltepec, and Texcalucan/Chichicaspa.]
