Bk. IV, f. 2r., gloss (”tlacal”)

Bk. IV, f. 2r., gloss (”tlacal”)

This is a detail, appearing in Book IV, folio 2 recto, showing, possibly, the second part of a word in Nahuatl, “tlacal” (tlacatl) located to the right of the church tower. The word seems to begin to the left of the church tower with “tiopan” (teopan, which would make the full word “teopantlacatl,” or church official). Both parts are written in black ink, apparently in the same hand, but these are a different hand and ink than those that comprise the principal text at the bottom of the page. If the word “teopantlacatl” is intended, it may be a reference to the man standing near the church in this larger scene. “Tlacal” is also possibly intended to stand alone, meaning person. [SW]
glosa
