seated female, weaving
This detail shows a woman weaving. She looks directly toward us. Note how the river/snake connect to the rectangle on the front of the weaver’s huipilli (handwoven blouse). The fabric she is weaving (on a backstrap loom of the type from pre-Columbian times) appears to be the same as her blouse, stripes with red, green, and a cream or white coloring. Her hair is braided with red/pink ribbons. Her legs are tucked up under her knees, in the Nahua woman’s traditional seated position. [SW]
