indigenous male with sword and coat of arms

The coat of arms is too indistinct to make out the details. It is painted on a banner held aloft on a post, grasped, possibly, by the hand of the Spaniard just off the screen to our right. The indigenous man wears an animal skin; the face of the animal is just visible above the man’s own face. The man has a goatee beard and a mustache. In his right hand he holds a European sword upright. [SW]
