This detail provides a closer view of the gathering in the open air outside the Christian church of San Juan Tolcayuca. If historical and not symbolic, this gathering took place sometime in the seventeenth or eighteenth century. A Spanish friar and a male indigenous leader, the latter holding a staff of office, sit on chairs at the table, while a group of eight or nine indigenous women sit on the ground nearby.

Un fraile español y un líder indígena sosteniendo un bastón ceremonial, se encuentran sentados en sillas alrededor de la mesa, mientras que ocho o nueve mujeres indígenas están sentadas en el suelo alrededor.
