palace of Teozacualco

This image represents the early colonial palace of Teozacualco. The so-called "collapsed facades" permit the simultaneous depiction of the floorplan and the elevation of the facades. Four rooms are set around a square inner patio. Each room has an arched doorway (a Spanish feature) into the patio. The main entrance from the outside is in the room to the left. The painter put enfasis on the cut stones of the doorways. No windows are indicated and possible there were none. Buildings of this type are very rare today, but a well preserved example of a palace very similar to this one is preserved in San Miguel Tequixtepec and can be visited.
