Here we see an indigenous nobleman and probable tlahtoani (ruler) seated on an icpalli (woven reed throne), holding a staff of office, wearing a cape and a loincloth (just visible here as a belt at his waistline), and with a speech scroll emerging from his mouth. He is shown in profile, facing to the viewer's left. He is looking toward the Spaniard. Reeds stand up from the back of his icpalli. (SW)
