horse
This was probably the horse that Cortés had been riding. But he dismounted to greet Xicotencatl. The indigenous artist who made this pictorial gives a lot of attention to detail in presenting the horse with all its riding gear, tackle, saddle, blanket, stirrup, the wavy hair of its tail, the movement of its legs, its white mane, and even the look in its eye. The only color in this detail is the green of the blanket under the saddle. [SW]
