Xicotencatl

Xicotencatl

This detail allows for a close view of the Tlaxcalan lord Xicotencatl, either the king or his son, who both had this name and were both of an age to go out to greet Cortés as he was arriving. XIcotencatl wears a colorful green loincloth and a cape with red ties. His sandals also have some red details, as does his feathered headdress. The headdress consists of two feathers. The feathers are tied around the head with two cords twisted together, one red and one white. Xicotencatl has a wrist band above his left hand, and Cortés (out of view in this detail) is grasping his wrist above his right hand. [SW]
