town block with river

This is a detail of a town block that includes a number of buildings, painted two different shades of red, and with shifting perspectives. The doorways are largely arches, which suggests European architectural influences. We also see what may be a spring, possibly a well, given the red stone blocks or adobe bricks surrounding part of it, and a river. The water appears to be painted a green color. The representation of water here is reminiscent of pre-Hispanic ways of depicting rivers, with its currents and eddies. One red shell sits atop the water. Note, too, how this water source seems to connect with the water at the base of the tlachihualtepetl across the road. [SW]
