row of buildings
This is a detail of the buildings that face the fountain in the main square (plaza, tianquiztli in Nahuatl). Note the shifting perspective, with the doorways facing different directions. The rounded arches represent a European architectural introduction. It appears that two different shades of red were used to paint the building exteriors. Red exteriors were typical for both pre-Hispanic and post-contact, sixteenth-century buildings. [SW]
