Girl's school, glossed 26

One of two images on the map glossed as number 26 this image represents the girl's school. Its location on the same quadrant as the Franciscan friary of San Francisco is significant as the Franciscans founded the school. However, the canal separating the two spaces is also telling as the Franciscan friars were not supposed to teach the girls, that was the job of nuns or beatas (uncloistered religious women). The canal potentially served as another physical reminder of that separation.
